Sweet Orange was first used for therapeutic purposes in the first century AD. The oil is mentally and physically uplifting and is helpful for overwork and lifestyle pressure. Has an affinity for the respiratory system and is therefore much used in winter. When oranges were first introduced to Britain they were known as Golden Apples & greatly treasured along with their oil.
Source: Citrus sinensis is produced in Portugal and Spain.
Extraction: Orange essential oil is steam distilled from the fresh fruit peel of the sweet orange tree.
Aroma: Sweet, sugary, and citrus.
Uses: Massage, baths, inhalation, vaporisation, poultice, compress and may be added to base emollients.
Orange essential oil is useful for massage when you need to relax after a hard day but still need the energy to go out that night, or for any facial massage.
It makes an excellent body moisturiser, and, added to the bath, calms fractious children.
Blends well with: Basil, Bergamot, Black Pepper, Cinnamon, Clary Sage, Clove, Coriander, Eucalyptus, Frankincense, Geranium, Ginger, Grapefruit, Jasmine, Juniper, Lavender, Lemon, May Chang, Marjoram, Myrrh, Neroli, Nutmeg, Patchouli, Petitgrain, Rose, Sandalwood, Vetiver and Ylang Ylang.
Caution: Orange essential oil should be used in moderation as it may irritate the skin, especially if it is exposed to sunshine after application. Store in a cool, dark place.
